Here I am…and you thought I wouldn’t make it!!
Today’s Latin word of the day – argumentum, and perhaps especially the “use it in a sentence” example given, ilia argumenta visa sunt certa…strike a chord with me today.
On day two of coughing induced laryngitis,
A big bowl of pho does a body good – ilia argumenta visa sunt certa
The past few days I’ve been working remotely from one of our satellite campuses babysitting the HR team of a retail giant as they rent a block of our online student abandoned classrooms for a hiring event. After a nearly idyllic week of gently imposed solitude interrupted by kind offers of “help yourself to a bagel” or “come join us for lunch” from my renters, today, my voicelessness made me feel completed isolated as I tried in vain to communicate with distant coworkers about things that I couldn’t seem to articulate in an email and they couldn’t hear me speak through the phone.
Although I’ve always savored solitude, being trapped in it can lead one in all manner of odd directions…
ilia argumenta visa sunt certa
And last but not least, coming across it as I looked for something else, I still adore this portrait –
The Roots one is rather special to me knowing he was in Canada! Actually he was in Vancouver in 2015 but sadly I was ill in hospital at the time with absolutely no chance of even catching a glimpse of him. *SO* frustrating! 😦
There were so many great shots of the Canadian promo for the first Hobbit movie!
So close, but still so far right?!
Hooray, glad you made it. And sorry to hear about the laryngitis. Hope you can rest at the weekend and recuperate!
And that grey cardigan picture is still really great. Nice reminder!
You’ve met me in person, so I think you can probably how imagine I find not being able to verbalize extremely frustrating to say the least! I have Saturday and then I am going to a conference on the riveting subject of adult student recruitment and retention. Yay.
21st Century take on Mr. Rogers still does the trick!!
Yup, I can imagine it is truly frustrating not to be able to communicate properly. Oh, and especially so when going to a conference. It doesn’t even apply that you could just sit back and enjoy… (Unless you conjure up a few mental images of Mr 21c Rogers – to while away the time…)
There are always one or two interesting talks, so I’ll muddle through, but yeah…Prof. Armitage would be a most welcome distraction!
Prof Armitage would have my FULLEST attention, in *any* set-up.
That soup looks delicious. Get well soon!!!
It is SOOO good!! I’m even getting to a point that I can actually get noodles into my mouth with the chopsticks too!!
What did we do before pho? You’ll have to teach me your chopsticks trick; I’ve never been able to manage noodles with them.
I made some pretty good chicken noodle soup last week too, but there is just something restorative about the pho!
I don’t know if it’s just practice (and I’m sure my technique resembles that of a toddler) but I increasingly able to get food in mouth with the chopsticks!!
There are things in pho that I don’t usually put in my own chicken soup (fish sauce, ginger) b/c dad won’t eat it then. But I could!
Sorry to hear about your laryngitis, but hope that you’re on the mend soon. And RA in a soft sweater gives me warm and fuzzy feelings. 😉 Thanks for sharing! Hugs!
I think I’ve turned a corner on the road back to voice…soft, warm sweater images didn’t hurt !
