“Sunny day…sweepin’ the clouds away” : Richard Armitage and The Muppets

If you were dropping by solely for some degree of erudition or classical scholarship…move on my friend.   Today, I’m channeling the four year old me and thinking about the Muppets.  If you haven’t seen the adorable video  of Tom Hiddleston schooling Cookie Monster on the value of patience, here it is..

I watched this yesterday and it reminded me of how much I’ve always loved the Muppets.  I grew up on Sesame Street, and my family also loved The Muppet Show.   It also gave me a clear idea of the mass appeal of Tom Hiddleston and inspired me to ponder how Richard Armitage and his chaRActers might interact with the Muppet crew.  So, without further ado, I give you my Muppet Meanderings… (all Muppet images sourced from muppetwikia.com and all Richard Armitage images from richardarmitagenet.com – crops are mine)

What might happen if Richard Armitage dropped by Sesame Street as Richard Armitage?

This is really just the tip of the iceberg, but I have to get at least some work done today!  What muppet favorites do you have?  (feel free to share links and pix in comments)  We already know Richard is a little partial to Kermit 🙂

this is awesome! *laughs* I love all of your Muppet/RA comparisons 🙂 I was a regular watcher of The Muppets too 😉 my favorite skits were Pigs in Space, the Swedish Chef, and Beaker/Dr.Honeydew. but now I’m going to have the Sesame Street theme song in my head…

Oh, sista, yes. I am a kid raised on Sesame Street, too (yes, even in Germany), and I loved the Muppets dearly. I would love to see Armitage in a little snark-and-sarcasm match with Waldorf and Stadler – or maybe he could totally out-charm them with his sweet disposition. I’d love to see him smooch Miss Piggy – she would totally fall for him, of course. Poor Kermie… and I can just imagine Armitage getting all embarrassed to be fawned over by Kermit’s woman, eh, sow…
Talking of smooching Miss Piggy – Hiddleston and Miss Piggy at the BAFTAs last year. Did you see this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfRKJrEbaLo
And then from Hiddles’ perspective: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSboKSWHmQY

Why did I have to approve your comment I wonder? *shrugs*

Very nice!! All excellent suggestions – I have not seen the Hiddles and Piggy tryst! I must watch…I have to say, Hiddleston is becoming a little bit on the side for me (how fitting since he’s a Classics nerd!)

      • guylty says:

You had to approve because I included links in my comment, I think.
And Hiddles is adorable, I have to say. I am keeping tabs on him myself, ever since he campaigned for Oxfam and went to Africa last spring. One of the new generation of Brit actors who are not just good looking but highly intelligent, ethically aware and genuinely nice, it seems.

You can actually change the setting in WP of the amount of links a comment can feature without having to approve them.
This is too cute. It’s been a while since I watched Sesame Street but I’d definitely tune in 😉
I wonder which character would be Richard’s favourite!

Hey there! Thanks for the tip – I will check that out.

That would be a great question for an interview :). I was just thinking that Elmo could “interview” him…since Richard has learned to deftly keep up with Lorraine’s rapid fire style, Elmo should be a breeze! 😉

The kindergarten teacher in me loves this post! We’ve got to get Richard on SS.

Miss Piggy and Richard, I could see that, poor Kermit. It has been awhile since the boys watched Sesame Street, I guess I do miss listening to it. Mr. 70 loved The Muppets, he liked Fonzie the best. I grew up without TV at home so only saw them at my grandparents.

Has anyone seen SS’s spoof of Indiana Jones? There’s a muppet in that who would be a perfect co-star for RA’s guest appearance: Virginia Virginia, who while seeking the Golden Octagon of Destiny tosses her auburn ringlets, croons in a husky contralto and braves strange and dangerous places. She is very sexy, in a female-version-of-John Porter sort of way. What about VV and RA on a round-the-world escapade? With ski-ing? That should make a nice, long episode.
I watch SS every morning with my five-year-old, and it’s as good as ever. But it’s a pity Kermit isn’t in it any more.

    • obscura says:

Virginia Virgina! I love it….I had to look her up 🙂 I love watching Muppets ski…I imagine all those flailing limbs must be what I look like careening down a ski hill!

  6. Nell says:

Thanks for this muppety start of my day :-)! And thank you all for your further suggestions although I am not yet in that “Hiddle mood”… Although RA seemed to be a little embarassed in the beginning he and Kermit made a good couple! Could imagine Miss Piggy might be able to tease out the pulling comedian of RA …

    • obscura says:

You are very welcome, and thanks for commenting! I’ve just warmed up to the Hiddles myself – it was a gradual thing 🙂 Miss Piggy and RA seems to be a popular pairing. I’d love to hear him count with the Count in the voice he used for the bat in The Lost Acorns .

    I always found him endearing!

  8. Perry says:

Why isn’t Kermit in it? Did he get a better offer?
    This was a delight Obscura.

    • obscura says:

From Kermit’s wikipedia page…, “Unlike the rest of the show’s Muppets, Kermit was never any property of Sesame Workshop and has rarely been a part of the show’s merchandise. When Sesame Workshop bought full ownership of its characters from The Jim Henson Company for $180 million, Kermit was not included in the deal. The character now belongs to The Muppets Studio, owned and controlled by the Walt Disney Company, although Sesame Workshop does have permission to use old sketches featuring Kermit. His first new Sesame Street appearance since 2001 was in the show’s 40th season premiere on November 10, 2009.

      I had tremendous fun!

  9. Servetus says:

I still think some of the Muppet would beat up on Armitage 🙂

  10. Joanna says:

I love this post 🙂 Thanks for laughs and giggles 😀

  11. Peggy Kincaid says:

Lovely. I think Richard would love playing with the Muppet and Serv I have to agree that some of them probably would gang up on him. LOL

  12. Stephanie Carr says:

This made my day–Richard and Kermit are my heroes. I adore them both.

    Happy Birthday!
